AGE FOR TREATMENT

Age For Orthodontics Treatment
The American Association of Orthodontists has recommended that the proper age for a child’s first visit to the orthodontist is seven years. Dr. Niles places great emphasis on early treatment (7 or 8 years old) in order to achieve the most optimal corrections facilitated by human growth and development. As a strong advocate of early and dentofacial treatment, we can often avoid extraction of primary and permanent teeth and eliminate the possibility of surgical correction as an adult. The earlier we see patients, the more options we have for correction.
We also offer a no-cost thumb sucking/habit cessation therapy program. While genetics have a profound affect on our dental and skeletal development, finger habits and tongue thrusting are common causes of tooth misalignment and jaw discrepancies. Our program is personalized and emphasizes building self-esteem through positive reinforcement.
Dr. Niles also places strong emphasis on adult treatment. In fact, over 50% of our patients are adults and we have treated patients up to 80 years of age. As you can see, it is never too late to give yourself the essentials for maintaining lifelong oral health and creating a positive self image.
